Of the nearly 25 million births per year in India, the number one reason for admission to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is neonatal jaundice. These infants comprise at least 50% of all admissions. Neonates currently are treated with devices that separate babies from their families and consume valuable hospital resources in the NICU. We are a team of Stanford business students, engineers and a surgeon working to create a portable, affordable solution that will unite infants with their mothers during phototherapy treatment and free up hospital resources and staff, thus allowing hospitals to treat more babies.
