Just ADUs

Housing in the Bay Area is expensive. Really expensive.

Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs), also known as in-law units, granny flats, or casitas, are living units built in the backyards of (or attached to) houses. ADUs are legal in California and have been rising in popularity over the past few years. By helping more homeowners successfully build ADUs, we can help increase the density of housing and, hopefully, the availability of more affordable options for potential renters. Building an ADU can be complicated, and it can be hard to know where to start with the project. The goal of this project is to provide the community with crowdsourced ADU examples that can help inspire and educate homeowners about the ADU building process. Example projects in our ADU Gallery show pictures of finished ADUs, along with helpful information such as estimated vs. actual cost, time to build, architect and contractor referrals, and tips on how to have a smooth build. The path to more affordable housing in the Bay Area is here, and the ADU community is waiting for you. All you have to do is Just Add U.
