Medicarro

Medicarro provides fast and reliable emergency care to mothers in Cerrito, a remote, indigenous community in Paraguay. Due to the lack of ambulances in Cerrito, women give birth at home or endure an arduous journey to reach the nearest hospital. Medicarro is an entrepreneurship-based emergency transport system where community members are trained to provide basic care on commonly used trucks retrofitted into affordable ambulances. When not on shift, drivers use the vehicle as an income-generating medical taxi. With this option, pregnant women and anyone that needs emergency medical attention will have a faster, cheaper, and more comfortable way to receive care. Medicarro will be implemented in Cerrito, with plans to scale throughout Paraguay and Latin America. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at medicarro@lists.stanford.edu!
