HEARTH- Ghana Palm

Hearth is a ‘do-it-yourself’ (DIY) ‘fireless cooker’ designed to be used with large Ghanaian cast aluminum pots. It has been designed with highly affordable & accessible materials & processes primarily for use by Ghanaian women palm oil processors to boil their palm fruits during processing using only 50% of current wood usage. Women in Ghana boil palm fruits for processing them into oil in large cast aluminum pots which takes 3-5 hours using firewood. They either buy the firewood or collect them from forests. Hearth reduces the amount of firewood required to boil palm fruits thereby displacing either their existing wood costs (one of the biggest costs in processing) or their time & effort needed to collect them from nearby forests, ultimately leading to better livelihoods for them and their families. Hearth, helping women earn more from palm oil.
